You must keep a record of any violence committed against a community health care worker.1 You must file a copy of that record with the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). It’s recommended that you document the incident and report it as soon as possible using a narrative to describe the nature of the incident.
When discussing workplace violence requirements for community health care workers:
People who receive home-based services who are responsible for hiring their own community health care workers need not keep records or make reports. The law intends to allow the DIR to track workplace violence to determine if a workplace violence problem exists for California health care and community care workers, and, if so, to what extent the problem exists.
