No. Employers must keep in-and-out time records for all nonexempt employees.
The Industrial Welfare Commission Orders require records showing when employees begin and end each work period, as well as meal periods, split shifts, and total daily hours (see Section 7 of Wage Orders 1–15 and Section 6 of Wage Order 16).
Failure to maintain accurate records may result in penalties, difficulty defending wage claims and increased workers’ compensation costs.
