An employee asked me to remove some of his job duties to reasonably accommodate his disability. Do I have to do this?

Each circumstance is different, but job restructuring can be one type of reasonable accommodation. California's disability regulations recognize that one type of accommodation can include reallocation or redistribution of non-essential job functions in a job with multiple responsibilities.

Employers are required to engage in a good faith interactive process with the employee with a disability to find reasonable accommodations that are effective in enabling the employee to perform the essential functions of their job. Employees that request reasonable accommodation of a disability are protected from retaliation regardless of whether their request is granted.

You can find more information in the Reasonable Accommodation section of the HR Library.
