If an employee wants to leave early, may he waive his meal period?

No, unless his shift will be completed in less than six hours and he completes a valid waiver.

An employee who works more than five hours must be provided a meal period no later than the end of the fifth hour of work. Employees cannot choose to waive this and take a "late lunch" or leave work early. There is an exception if the employee’s work period for the day is more than five hours but no more than six hours. In this circumstance, the meal period may be waived with the mutual consent of the employee and the supervisor.
