Sick leave benefits paid to an employee may affect State Disability Insurance (SDI) eligibility. SDI benefits generally are reduced by the dollar amount of sick leave an employee is receiving, so the employee does not end up with more than his/her regular wage amount.
An employer may integrate the employee's sick leave with the amount that the Employment Development Department is paying to equal the employee's full salary with the two amounts combined.
