Do I have to have a written plan to address workplace violence?

Yes. Most employers are covered by California's general industry workplace violence safety requirements under the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s (Cal/OSHA) jurisdiction. The law requires employers to address workplace violence through a comprehensive written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), either as a standalone document or as part of their required Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP). The plan must contain procedures to identify and mitigate workplace violence hazards and for receiving and responding to reports of workplace violence threats or incidents. Employers must train employees on the plan and create workplace violence incidence logs and other documentation.
