Is pregnancy disability leave only for pregnant employees?

Pregnancy disability leave (PDL) provides protected time off to an individual who is actually disabled by pregnancy, so it would not apply to someone who is not pregnant.

If the employer is covered by federal and California family and medical leave laws (FMLA/CFRA), any soon-to-be dad (or mom) would be able to take time off for child bonding after the child is born — assuming the employee meets eligibility requirements.
