It depends on who decides that the employee leaves.
“Reporting time pay” is a type of wages owed to employees in a number of situations, with a few exceptions. Failure to wear proper safety equipment or being sent home sick are not exceptions from the reporting time pay rules.
Reporting time pay is owed when the employer deprives the employee of the opportunity to work. If the employee chooses to go home (e.g., due to illness or personal reasons), reporting time pay is not owed.
If the employer sends the employee home — such as for improper safety equipment or illness — reporting time pay is required.
Employers may still discipline employees for violating safety or company policies.
